Dominican Republic Entry Requirements
The Dominican Republic is one of the easiest countries in the world for entry / exit requirements. The country depends heavily on tourism so it has made itself very available to countries throughout the world. We have compiled the following information to help guide you in planning your vacation here in the Dominican Republic. But, if you have any additional questions we suggest you contact your travel agent, airline or relevant governmental agency.
Tourist Card
Individuals entering the Dominican Republic from most countries, who are visiting strictly for tourism purposes, need to obtain a tourist card. The tourist card (sometimes called a “tourist visa”) currently costs USD $10 and is valid for 30 days from the date of entry. If you stay longer than 30 days you will need to pay additional fees when you exit the country.
Often tour operators will obtain the tourist card for you as part of a package but it remains your responsibility to ensure one is acquired for you.
Strangely enough, immediately after purchasing the tourist card and displaying it to the passport officer at the port of entry you will turn it back in to another person. You do not retain the tourist card.
Tourist cards are not needed for tourists who are residents of: Argentine, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, Japan, Peru, Liechtenstein, South Korea and Uruguay.
Tourist cards may not be necessary if you have a diplomatic, official or service passport. If you don’t know what these are, you probably need the tourist card.
Passports
Generally speaking, bring a passport to get into the Dominican Republic with the least amount of hassle and return back to your country without any hassle. Your passport should be valid for up to six (6) months from your date of entry.
If you are from the European Union and have a national identity card you may be allowed into the Dominican Republic at the discretion of the immigration officer.
Return Ticket
As much as you will love the Dominican Republic and want to remain here in the vacation rental you’ve selected, all tourists entering the Dominican Republic from any country need to be able to present a return ticket upon request.
